Financial Independence, Getting Out of Debt

Debt Destruction Progress – Part 2

It’s hard to believe that it’s been two years since I buckled down and got serious about destroying my debt and pursuing financial independence. I’ve made a ton of what I would have called sacrifices, but in reality, it’s hard to call them sacrifices anymore.

I sold my car, moved in with roommates, sold a ton of belongings, reigned in spending, and changed my outlook on money. That all sounds like a huge lifestyle change, and it definitely has been.

Yet, if anything, the things that I’ve cut out of my life have made it more efficient and streamlined. I have less stuff, less to worry about, and most importantly, a lot less debt.

It hasn’t all been easy, but I can say that for the most part this lifestyle has been more satisfying than I could have imagined. I either have or will blog about the lifestyle changes in detail, so you can check them out there, but for now I’m excited to share how those changes have impacted my debt destruction progress.

Take a look at my updated progress chart:

As I you can see, I started my journey with $73,000 worth of debt. As of September 1st, 2017, I now have only have $21,096 left.

That means that in two years I’ve destroyed $51,904 worth of debt! That’s $2,162.66 per month!

I’m not making gobs of money or doing anything special. There is no magic formula that I’m following. As I mentioned above, my progress is due to lifestyle changes, budgeting, and reshaping the way I view money. It takes setting a goal and having the discipline to follow through on whatever it takes to get there.

If everything remains constant, I’m on schedule to be completely debt free by September of next year.

Thanks for following along with me! Hopefully my journey will inspire you, help you set goals for your financial life, and encourage you to take some steps in your life that will help you reach those goals!
